The firmiana malayana or mata lembu, remains here in testimony to man's care-less-ness - its tree had since been felled. Let not the birds leave too.

A Bulbul lesson

There is an unusual dearth of avian life down by the river and I can only put this down to the noise and earthwork activities going on downstream, just metres away from where one would normally see the little egret, pond heron, migrant grey wagtail (if it's already around); the racket due to flood mitigation and river bank strengthening for the adjacent sewerage plant as reported, (however, it did not deter the black-backed kingfisher from appearing that day right where it was nosiest, as was narrated.).

So I stood down by the river, waiting and hoping, and just enjoyed the scene played out by this family of Stripe-throated Bulbuls, where the parents were basically trying to lure the young to take flight, to no success when I finally left, as it continued to stay put.

First the parents brought food.

Then it did manage to get the young to fly out to the open instead of remaining in the background.

But looked like that was about it, the young not the least tempted to follow suit.

The only success a parent had was getting the young to imitate it preening.

This gorgeous fruiting tree will certainly provide convenient and abundant food for both adult and young.
