Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Profile of a hornbill beauty

It has been 9 years, and more, since the Oriental Pied Hornbill, female, was sighted around the taman.  Wear and tear does show on this bird but we do hope it'll be around for a longer time yet.  Hornbills are known to live up to 40 years old in the wild, 50 in captivity.
In those early days a black hornbill was seen with this one, and I believed could have been mistaken for another oriental pied hornbill.  Unfortunately the other one has not been seen since.

My available decent shots of the Black Hornbill then were merely these, taken with a point-and-shoot, in 2010.  Ahh, if only I was more 'bird-conscious' then!!
