Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Myna, you too

It has been a learning experience for many as we manage to spot increasingly more and more nestings in both the taman and bukit.

Over the years many of us were lucky to observe and record at close range the breeding brahminy kites and crested goshawks at their rough and untidily built nests of sticks and twigs, bark strips and plastic scraps, similarly with the smaller birds like the bulbuls, orioles and doves.  Then we have those nesting in tree holes like the woodpeckers and even the magpie robins, and even in river banks for the kingfishers.

And me too, says this Javan Myna.

However these mynas are also known to nest in man-made structures like bridges and buildings like houses with under wave-like roof tiles that offer some semblance of cavity nest, and also sites like crowns of palm trees.  And they use materials like dry twigs, leaves and plastic pieces to 'cosy up' the nest interior.
