The firmiana malayana or mata lembu, remains here in testimony to man's care-less-ness - its tree had since been felled. Let not the birds leave too.

Another squirrel species for BK

I couldn't feel but excited when I came across this squirrel which I knew immediately was not the usual and ubiquitous plantain squirrel.  A quick search revealed it to be a Slender Squirrel (Sundasciurus tenuis).

This small mammal of about 15cm from head to body and up to 13cm of tail length (compared to that of a plantain squirrel which is 17-22cm, and tail 16-21cm) is pretty striking with its long slender tail, perhaps hence its name.  It's considered Least Concern in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and it's found in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
It feeds on soft tree bark, fruits, insects and small vertebrates such as lizards.

This squirrel stands out too with a pale orange-brown patch round the eyes and small ears.
