Pecking order

 While the Common Flameback Woodpecker parents engaged in their dalliance, the sub-adult was not too far away calling at intermittence, perhaps to remind the parents of its presence.

It was the first one to reveal itself by its calls, freezing as I approached and remaining in the same spot outlasting my watch.



Evading me as I attempted to move in.



And I was only too happy to chance upon the parents in their own privacy a few metres away.
