Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

A drongo at its meal

When the two Greater Racket-tailed Drongos (Dicrurus paradiseus) flew in although separately, I was happy to walk off after getting what I thought were pretty decent images despite shaded habitat and backlighting.

They had earlier alerted me to their presence by their rather aggressive calls and it was a bonus then when these birds decided to alight low.

And then one of them flew off and as quickly descended on the same branch, and started to hit its beak against the branch, it got me because of the suggestion of a food in mouth.

It didn't look like it was in a hurry to devour the grasshopper the way it was examining it.

Guessed it was deciding how to start on its meal!

And finally the entire body, but unlike what a normal bird would do, tilt back and swallow, this one simply drew it in.

And looking very pleased with itself after the meal.  Whilst this bird normally goes for insects it also feeds on fruits and nectar.

A handsome metallic beauty nevertheless!
