Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

The more common woodpeckers

The Common Flameback Woodpeckers (Dinopium javanesse) were one of the first woodpeckers to frequent the taman and for some unexplained reasons they were conspicuously rarely seen during the recent nesting period of the crimson-winged woodpeckers.

So it felt good to see these Common Flameback Woodpeckers, also known as Belatuk-Pinang biasa, back foraging in the taman again.
