Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

The arctic one

It used to be easier to spot than the eastern-crowned warbler.  Every one that I have come across so far in the bukit and the taman has been the eastern-crowned warbler, so there was a little excitement when I finally sighted the Arctic Warbler (Phylloscopus borealis)(Cekup or Cekup Daun Arctik), or was it?

What's in a name?
A straightforward translation in Cekup Artik,  as 'burung cekup daun' refers to a warbler.

I had hesitated to identify it initially as an Arctic Warbler simply for its less distinct characteristic dark tip at lower mandible, and relatively lighter grey wash on breast, but it's possibly a first winter bird after all.

A big stride for a small one.
