The firmiana malayana or mata lembu, remains here in testimony to man's care-less-ness - its tree had since been felled. Let not the birds leave too.

Ever reliable kingfishers

When there're no star birds around, I can always rely on these two to make up for the gap.

Get set ...

Almost there ...

... and perfect!

Thanks!

Only the mynas

I've oft times seen the mynas pause as they walk and fluff, a behaviour that seems peculiar only to these mynas.

A bird would fluff up its feathers to cool down on a hot day, to release excess body heat (as it would on a cold day to keep warm).  It's also said that it does this when excited or when it wants to attract the female!

And it fluffs up too when it preens to get rid of excess water or dust or dirt.

Perhaps these mynas take to the ground too much (the only other birds that walk the ground as much are the doves but they do not seem to exhibit this behaviour), attract too much dust and dirt, and frequently desire to dust off!

A 'crowing' drongo

The Greater Racket-tailed Drongo took me by surprise as it suddenly flew in from somewhere, 'crowed' but no sooner did it do that, it was pounced on by a myna, and fled instantly.

Knowing the limit

You scratch my back and I do yours, and let's leave it at that.

Play time for barbet

Another play time for the Lineated Barbet, and more, as it took the opportunity to clean and preen.

An act we can emulate, thorough and unrestrained,  leaving no feathers untouched!

Trivial - for which its name

The Common Flameback Woodpecker that is also referred to as the Common Goldenback must have been named after the brilliant crimson or red flame bursting from its back, especially outstanding in the female, that minus the red crest of the male has the red flame leaps out at you when she spreads out.
However this woodpecker does have an equally distinctive underpart, for which it could have been named otherwise?

Beauty in the blossoming

Just for comparison - showing promises of stunning colours to emerge.

And others on the way too ....

And then into adulthood.
