Spectacled Spiderhunter

It has to be the area's resident Spectacled Spiderhunter that's normally seen and especially heard from the bukit to the taman.

It seemed to have found lately a new playground in the taman and the immediate residential surroundings with its early morning call-out acting like an alarm clock.

And there it was again as I entered the taman, unmistakably loud but elusive, seeking the upper canopy.  Then it was, crossed-your-fingers, aimed by sound rather than sight!

Common Kingfisher

 Almost a teeney weeny kingfisher from afar, although it stunning turquoise and orange 'call' out loud.

And easily missed again because of its super low and speedy flight, yet unmistakable because of its super shrill calls as it speeds on, past or towards you if you're lucky!

For a tiny bird, it's a humanely unfathomable journey and flight from its home ground to arrive to this migrant ground, even more so for a sub-adult Common Kingfisher?

So it has claimed all the superlatives!

Asian Brown Flycatcher

 One of a rather passive Asian Brown Flycatcher that I have come across.

Alone, as it's always with any asian brown flycatcher.  

And this one perhaps intimidated by the presence of the yellow-rumped flycatchers, it  promptly left.

 And there she was, the sub-adult Yellow-rumped Flycatcher, up front attempting for grubs again and again in the blazing sun, noon hours when feeding was not common.

Unfortunately I didn't witness any success as the young bird hopped, perched, flew from branch to branch but not once paused to down any catch.

What looked like success but wasn't as the bird flew down promptly to scan the immediate surrounding again.

Yellow-rumped Flycatcher

Tis' a season of plenty, and commonly observed since the arrival of the migrant Yellow-rumped Flycatchers is that an adult is always accompanied by a junior.

It's been now four occasions that I've come across a pair each time, it's either an all male or female pair.

On the latest sighting, unfortunately not a second it allowed, not another opportunity for a refocus.

But there they were, mainly keeping to their respective part of the tree.

The more alert adult and the blooming sweet young thing.

The wariness of the adult was also observed as it kept more to the back whilst the young was hardly self-conscious, in the foreground.
