Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

A closer shrike encounter

I finally managed a few shots that were better than before of a young Tiger Shrike that's obviously still unsettled in its new transit home in the bukit, as it was easily startled when resident birds called suddenly.  I deemed its stay transit because tiger shrikes are not normally seen in the bukit throughout the entire winter sojourn here.

I was fortunate that it was on the hunt so gave away its presence amidst the inner trees and shrubs, was successful, quickly finished off its prey.

Then looking nervously around at the sound of the other birds, it promptly disappeared from sight.
