Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

First 's(t)rike'

This's the earliest I've sighted a Brown Shrike in the taman as previously it has always been late September.  It's always a good feeling to know that brown shrikes have been spending their winter here annually since my first record in 2015.

On this occasion, there was practically no effort exerted to spot this bird as it was perched quite openly and only fled when I tried to get closer.

04/2022

For a relatively new arrival, it looked pretty sharp and fresh.

Ever so skittish, this young Shrike, perhaps a female, retreated promptly into the safety of the undergrowth.

It seemed to think that it could be out of sight as it spied me from behind the tip of a twig 😅.
