The Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea), a common sight in marshland and paddy fields, seems to favour this taman too as both adult and juvenile birds have been spotted here from time to time. However, these are rather shy birds that flee at the slightest alert, seem to favour the highest point around. So, this is where one is best able to spot it in the open.
This juvenile kept fleeing from tree to tree, in the presence of a band of macaques, but when it took off, it certainly did at a leisurely pace, with poise and grace if one may add.
With its streaky and snaky neck, this legged beauty is still to be appreciated.
