I was pleasantly surprised to find the two juvenile Crested Goshawks still around, being more than 30 days old now, and close to its nest.
The older sibling was sighted further away.
Something obviously caught its attention but that was all the reaction it incited in this juvy.
The younger one seen beside the nest, constantly looking up at its older sibling.
And that was the last I saw of these two.
A couple of days later a parent was seen trying to feast alone nearby, deservedly for a successful parent, however the nature of its catch!
This catch seemed to be more than a 'claw-and-beakful', so had it snatched off more than it could cope?
Given similar amount of time, I had seen a Crested Serpent-eagle already tearing into this prey and devouring it. Unfortunately it was not to be for this Goshawk still seen struggling and attempting to puncture the monitor lizard's skin.
It's lucky that it only had to contend with the thick skin and not a flicking tail at the same time!
As it was keenly aware of my presence throughout its labour, I finally decided that its struggle with its prey should be enough burden so I moved away reluctantly, for its peace to feast (for in any similar situation any bird would have flown off immediately upon being sighted), hoping that it would soon be able to have its 'cake and eat it too'.
