The firmiana malayana or mata lembu, remains here in testimony to man's care-less-ness - its tree had since been felled. Let not the birds leave too.

A Falconet on the hunt

How thrilling, no matter the angle, no matter the lighting, as this Black-thighed Falconet suddenly flew right in as I approached.  And I knew immediately that it had a prey as it was too preoccupied to heed my approach even as it was mere metres away and low too.

It may be a small insect prey, a dragonfly, but it's characteristic of the Falconet to tear the insect apart as it consumed it unlike, say the bee-eaters that will swallow whole this kind of insect prey.

And then it was on the hunt again.

When it's rare to have this one down so low, I was ready to attempt some flight shots ...

... but was conned by its eventual exit path!

BK birds

I suppose it's not too hopeless to wish that some of the birds that I saw in Bukit Kiara could make their appearance in the taman.  Undoubtedly the foliage in the taman is different but then again, it shouldn't be impossible because the number of feeding trees here to my amateur eyes and knowledge, seem to outnumber those in the bukit, an attraction indeed.  Furthermore, there is no lack of insects and such for the insect feeding birds.
Anyway, for a start, it would be lovely to see the Black-thighed Falconet and the Chestnut-breasted Malkoha in the taman.  I have infrequently sighted the Falconet across the stream in the taman but not this species of Malkoha.  The Green-billed Malkoha seems to have claim its stake here instead.
So here are the pair of Falconets that I sighted in the bukit, and one of a pair too of the Malkohas.

It's interesting how this tiny bird prefers to perch right at the edge of this dry branch
