Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Another new sighting

It is not difficult to be convinced that this taman is really a green belt, as someone described it, for birds to stop over, whether it is migrant or local.
The latest sighting of the Banded Bay Cuckoo is another triumph for the taman.  A pair was seen but the female, spotted, was more elusive.  The male was happily darting around, after moths which it managed to get quite easily.  It was so preoccupied with seeking out its prey on its perch that it allowed plenty of photo opportunity.
The cuckoo is a brood parasite, laying eggs in another's nest, kicking off the host's young and getting the host to feed its own young!  Nevertheless it is a beautiful bird with its striking rufescent or reddish colour and fine barrings on its underparts.
