Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

The chestnut one

The Chestnut-breasted Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus curvirostris) is surely one of the more stunning malkoha, with its chestnut-brown breast which I think contribute to its brighter face compared to the other malkohas, and glossy greenish back.

This is one bird that belongs to the cuckoos family but is not brood parasitic as the other cuckoos as it will build its own nest and raise its chicks.

Normally I was simply glad to see it fly past, but having seen the two other malkoha species successively during recent days, it felt like a dishonour to let this one go without capturing its images although it kept to mid-storey and among thick foliage, images that unfortunately did not do justice to its beautiful upper-part.
