'you can (fly) but you can't hide...' and so the lyrics go, and so the Chestnut-winged Cuckoo is always adept at quickly lying low when spotted, then it will allow a whiff and a glimpse as it darts out for its prey, and then retreats into the foliage again. But if Lady Luck smiles at you, and you manage more than a glimpse, be grateful and enjoy the moment even if it's less than ideal.
And so when stalking another, this one fluttered about above to reveal its presence, it was indeed an opportunity, a so very rare sighting in the taman.
And I had thought that this migrant visitor had long left with no report of sighting anymore, in fact anywhere else either, to my knowledge.
It's a gorgeous full grown adult going by its rich rufous throat and deep chestnut-coloured wings, and, sigh, perhaps better luck next time for a better side profile image that can do justice to its stunning colours, distinctive crest and long tail.
The Chestnut-winged Cuckoo has offered mere glimpses of its visits to the taman over the last couple of years, and it is only this season that I've finally able to capture its images on more than one occasion, and here's fingers-crossed, that I could only get luckier going after images of its beauty.
