The firmiana malayana or mata lembu, remains here in testimony to man's care-less-ness - its tree had since been felled. Let not the birds leave too.

Jambu Fruit-Dove

Not the first time, but always a rare treat to sight this Near Threatened (IUCN status) female Jambu Fruit-Dove in the bukit.

Crossing my fingers that henceforth the next lucky encounter would be with a male JFD.

There's never a haste to capture its images for this one will feed at its own pace, move to its own indulgence and without self-consciousness if one doesn't hound it.

Aware but unwary

A classic case of I Spy You Spy, and nobody gets anybody, which is perfectly fine with me!

Pink-necked Green Pigeon

It was simply delightful to chance upon what was a sheer picturesque sight.
The Pink-necked Green Pigeon only proceeded to continue feeding when I stationed myself quietly.

And then sheer delight turned to super delight when my eyes fell upon this!

Birds, after all

It's a bird's world, and  a long shot (figuratively and metaphorically) for the human being to try and comprehend avian tiffs and discord.

Perhaps the cause of the racket.

Considered the culprit as it was finally shrieked at and screeched off.

And the motley flock that ganged up at the target dispersed immediately after.

Then another display, that began as fast as it ended, with me none the wiser, or even able to hazard the slightest guess.

And the plot thickened with the appearance of this strangely patterned Javan Myna, with a rare perch besides a Common Myna.

Amidst it all was a Spotted Dove absorbed in its own world, fluffing and easing down throughout the entire cacophony.

Viva the avian world!

A long-awaited dove

A flash of white underparts ensured that I stopped in my track, zoomed in, and lo and behold, the last bird I expected to see, a Jambu Fruit Dove (Ptilinopus jambu).  I've longed to see this one ever since I heard about its sighting in the bukit more than a year ago and yet when it appeared it still came as a surprise, unexpected mainly because of the time and tree it was in.

The Jambu Fruit Dove is of Near Threatened status in the IUCN Red List and it's always pure delight to come across this bird regardless of whether it's the more gorgeous looking male or less striking female. It normally moves about quietly in mid or higher canopy, then sits out its time ever so silently till it's ready to fly away which makes it a challenge to spot this bird.

Nevertheless I couldn't be more thrilled to spot this female sub-adult here especially least expected since there was no fruiting tree around to attract its presence and foraging.

A few seconds spent to preen enabled more photo opportunities.

The dove is so well blended into the foliage that when it moved, I almost lost it and in particular when I changed position too for better angles.

It was with reluctance that I finally left it as it tried to snooze but looked like it was alert to being watched.
Enough!  It has given me its time and for that what else but gratitude.
