Pygmy woodpecker

Another regular to the taman.

The challenge is always to capture the Grey-capped Pygmy Woodpecker's special red markings on its rear crown.

 

Iora's display

 What's natural for one, achievement for another.

But it's simply all in a morning's work for the Common Iora.

A sensitivity, that it was not alone!

Didn't think it pause to appreciate the flowers!

Hardly the two foraged together, usually one following the other, the male on another tree.

'Ground' triller

 It moved like it was the most normal of behaviours but it's not, as it's usually seen to forage in trees.

From afar, I could have mistaken the Pied Triller foraging on the ground for a forest wagtail if this was during the migrant season.

Not very successfully as I observed for almost 5 minutes as it strode, stalked and crossed the field.

No luck, so on it hopped and probed.

Again, it's failed attempt.

Moving on again.

And it's to the opposite area now as I continued to stalk it, and absorbed in foraging it was not mindful of my movements.

This time it took off again like a bullet to another patch.

Perhaps a better vantage point here.

Unfortunately that lasted only moments till it was spooked by an oncoming motorcyclist along the adjacent walkway, and that was the end of its ground foray.

But doesn't one love a bird in flight, however distant!
