Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

New woodpecker visitor

It's always cause for celebration when a new avian visitor is sighted in the taman.  The Crimson-winged Woodpecker was the latest to be spotted in the taman.  It's hope that it wouldn't be a one-off sighting as this one had been seen over a couple of days already.
This woodpecker is normally sighted in lowland forest so to see it in a park is a bonus.  The taman indeed is at a strategic location to have played host to no less than five species of woodpeckers todate.
And happily I ticked off bird species no 96 for this one.

It was most fortunate that the woodpecker spent more than seconds here to afford me some decent shots.  In fact it would have lingered longer if not spooked by a couple of asian glossy starlings.
