Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

A new Myna visitor species

I thought the squawking and screeching was new to the taman so I hurried over to where the din was and was pleasantly surprised when a Common Hill Myna flew into sight, followed by another, certainly a bonus as it turned out to be a pair.

So this is avian species no 102 to grace the taman.

This Myna is most distinguished by its bright orangey yellow fleshy folds of skin or wattles on the sides of the head and nape, and its thick yellow bill.  Unfortunately this is one popular prey of the caged bird trade, simply because it can mimic human speech and other bird calls.

This bird is omnivorous, and in this case, on closer look this one seemed to have caught what looked like a flying lizard going by the thin long tail, perhaps this was what the racket was all about.

I guessed there was no rivalry there as these two quickly got cosy!

A handsome pair nevertheless!
