Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

This barbet is different, II/III

Avian parenting is truly exemplary of pure tolerance and giving.  One couldn't have come across a more demanding young than an avian chick or juvenile, always hollering for food till they fledge.

What happened when a young still clamoured for more after each round of feeding?

Threw tantrums, and this was how this juvenile did it, its way!

Pinched, and pinched, and pinched for more!

The first pinch and I thought it was being playful ...

... and then it continuously did so at the end of each feed

A fully developed juvenile down to whiskers as long as its parent's (!),  that looked like it should have fledged the day before!

The guessing game is always on - how many chicks?
Perhaps two.

Another repeat of tantrums!

Looked like the parent needed to recoup and refresh as it flew to an adjacent branch.

Was it trying to be 'manja' with its parent?!

And then behaving rather badly!

Another outburst was to hold on to the parent's beak.

A parent's indulgence ....

A temperament only a parent can tolerate ....

Would one continue to make the nest warm and cosy if the intent was to encourage the inhabitants to leave?
The parent seen to spend time housekeeping the nest, for almost a good 4 minutes!
As it had been raining continuously, perhaps the branch was now rather damp and it looked like the parent was removing wet wood chips.
