Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Did it or did it not

Lately there have been a couple of unsuccessful nesting and sadly this could be one of them.

When the Changeable Hawk-eagle (Nisaetus cirrhatus) was spotted building its nest a couple of months ago, there was much excitement as it's the third raptor species to do so in the vicinity of the taman and bukit, the others being the brahminy kite and the crested goshawk.

And it looked like it would be the second time it's doing so as there was a similar nest before, further down to its new one, and the Hawk-eagle was seen then to hang around the same area late last year supposedly when its young fledged.

The old nest.

Frequently seen and heard then during those days, even preening whilst overseeing its nest.

The second nest.

When I last saw what appeared like it was putting final touches to its nest, the expectation was high that there would soon be a chick.

Making trips to and from nest was a routine.

But the last I saw of it was this and no chick, so the deduction was that there was no happy ending, and since then the nest looked abandoned.
