Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

A sad sight, and alacking

It was quite shocking to say the least when I walked into this scene, on a late morning, of fishes gasping for breath on the sand bar.  The continuous rain the day and night before must have raised the water level and subsequently when it subsided these fishes were left in dismay, and worse.

My first instinct was to run down to try and get those still flipping about into the water but unfortunately the gate down the ramp to the river was locked, so I could only look on helplessly (unfortunately park workers were off too).

And then it also struck me that avian life in the taman was presently truly lacking.  The fishes must have been scattered about for a couple of hours already, and yet there was no bird swooping down for these easy preys, a couple still alive.

The big one was alive but went completely still in seconds whilst the smaller ones were already dead.

There was hope for this one when it managed to flip and wriggle to the water edge.

Did it make it?
