Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

A quick snap, and snag

It looks like the Black-bellied Malkoha has a favourite playground, albeit not extensive, in the bukit.  I have sighted it in this area on more than a couple of occasions but always singly.

As usual it kept to the upper canopy but sensing a big catch it ventured down to mid-level, was quick enough to snag a large praying mantis.  Insects do form a large part of the diet of this species.

As suddenly as it appeared it disappeared with its prey, perhaps spooked by a group of curious hikers enquiring what I was targeting.
