Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Shrike encounter

Another migrant bird that could still be commonly seen is the Tiger Shrike, but more so in Bukit Kiara than in the taman.
However this one looked like it's assuming adult plumage already, definitely just a matter of time before it flew home, wherever that could be.
This one bird was surprisingly more confiding than usual as it sat just metres away for me to click at it.

This was by far the best opportunity I had to get a real close image of its raptor-like bill.

(I recall the images I took of a similar Shrike in Nov last year, perhaps could be this one, how it exercised its bill to snap off the head of an assassin bug.)

Back to the present images, lighting plays such a significant role in photography and when this Shrike flew into the shade, it assumed a rather different image.
