Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Healthy woodpecker presence

With all the excitement going on elsewhere with a pair of rufous woodpeckers (this story will have to be for another post), I was thrilled when a female bird flew in just as I was moving on from the Woodshrike scene (ref earlier post).

I didn't think it could be one of the pair that was presently causing the excitement because this one looked rather young.

And then another one came, a male.  Could it be?

A quick playback revealed the male to be a young adult, its back feathers not fully developed to mature plumage yet.
And it seemed easily distracted too.

But looked like the foraging down there seemed more alluring.

So perhaps it could take over!

And true enough it did, as the other one gave way.

The male eventually confirmed its young naive status as it was not the least concerned that I was standing there, as it continued to forage, flying about above me and even down to eye level, and finally off.
