Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Appreciating habitat

Some images are not pretty, but they do speak of reality like these of the White-breasted Waterhens (Amaurornis phoenicurus) who cleverly blend into their habitat when foraging, except that the habitat does not make a pretty picture.  So we do tend to dismiss these images and hope for cleaner, even better if minimalist background.

We forget sometimes that understanding habitats can lead us to spot more easily the birds concerned as habitats do offer hints of the colour of the avian plumage.  And blending in naturally help birds to mute their presence.

A young adult out alone but always alert and would have fled if it knew it was watched.  But unaware it foraged on alone.

Perhaps it was planned, perhaps not, but both parent and young eventually met up.  As usual, parents are always more sensitive and on the watch.

So it's safer if each one went their way alone.
