Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Flycatcher arrival

I dare say that one of the earliest to host the arrival of migrant birds in the Klang Valley could be this taman.  It's such a delight to spot another one, the Yellow-rumped Flycatcher.  This is one bird that does arrive earlier than others too, and last year's record too showed the same.
It's a pleasure to view this one with its gorgeous yellow rump and underparts.  It forages mainly at the upper canopy so to photograph it can be a challenge, and on this occasion the shady area, ie, dim light, did not help. I believe this bird is a passage migrant because it's hardly seen again after a day or so.  However, it could stop over again on its journey to fly home some months later.
It was this initial sighting that got me excited and to track it round the dense foliage.

Fortunately it did alight long enough for some decent shots although hardly ideal.
