Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

The tiniest raptor

I was surprised to find this Black-thighed Falconet perched comparatively low.  The world's tiniest raptor, the Falconet is normally seen high up, on the topmost bare branch.
It wasn't easy at all trying to photograph it because of the backlight but I simply had to get it because it was the first time I saw it right in the taman, and not on the highest tree.  Then I saw that it was a juvenile which could explain its uncharacteristic perch.
It was on the lookout and finally did get what looked like a dragonfly.

It was incredible that this sharp-eyed bird could actually spot me as I was shooting through a rather small opening among the leaves.

Notice its extraordinary large eyes for a tiny bird.  It only measures about 15 cm.

Prey at claws.

The leftover wing of what looked like a dragonfly's, before the wing was completely swallowed up.

And then it's preening time, rubbing its bill against the branch.
