Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Give way to the Barbet

It was strange that when the Lineated Barbet started calling, the Asian Koel was silenced.  Could it be that it knew the Barbet was calling for its young and it gave way?

Both were not too far apart on the same tree.

However it looked like the recalcitrant young was nowhere in sight because there was absolutely no response and the calling went on and on and could be heard even as I walked away far into the taman.

Another one was uncomfortably closed by, the Crested Goshawk.  Perhaps it's just as well that the juvy was nowhere around, can't have another one lost to the Goshawk!
