Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Woodshrike!

It has been rather depressing lately, what with the dreaded construction work already starting, and the recent discovery that a tree survey by the detestable developer has shown that trees, in the car park and in the upper portion of the taman right to the first pond, will be cleared, that the monstrous development will ravage a portion of the taman.
Birdlife in the taman has been rather uninspiring, with only common park birds sighted, so when I chanced upon the Large Woodshrike, I was naturally thrilled!  One more new sighting, which add to my personal record of species sighted, No 81.

I don't believe it's common to find this bird in public parks so this find again does indicate that the taman does provide some kind of transit point or stopover, or even foraging ground for all sorts of birds.  This Woodshrike feeds mainly on large insects.
