Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Flycatchers galore

It has been a most interesting time at the bukit during this avian migratory season, with a few super uncommon sightings!

First, the flycatchers, the usual and the not so expected.

The Asian Brown Flycatcher (Muscicapa dauurica) could practically be seen round each corner.

A couple were close by a couple preferred to stay distant.

Then it was a Green-backed Flycatcher (Ficedula elisae) which I thought was no longer around.  This time a female was way down foraging near the stream.

The juvenile Dark-sided Flycatcher (Muscicapa sibirica) came as a surprise because over the years, I've only sighted adult.  Anyway this one was truly the farthest away, and aiming incessantly after insects.

The Mugimaki Flycatcher (Ficedula muginmaki) is not uncommon, appearing regularly over the years here, both male and female, but on this walk was only seen the male.

And for the sighting of all sightings, yet the most frustrating, nevertheless a record sighting.
This was a male Amur Paradise Flycatcher (Terpsiphone incei), brown morph, with its distinct long tail.  It came in a bird wave, and an opportunity for a better shot went with the wind as the bird was spooked by walkers babbling loudly as they past by.
