Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

A rare Thrush

I guessed everyone did think that the rare Eye-browed Thrush (Turdus obscurus) had left the bukit because it has been sighted only once, and that was more than two weeks ago.  It was a first for the bukit as the bird had been sighted briefly in previous years only in the highlands.  However it's said to be found in parks and forests too, fond of fruiting trees (and that was where this one was first sighted).

So when came a bird wave and a slender bird broke away, and flew right down to where I was scanning up, looking distinct with orange upper-breast and flanks and white belly, I was excited thinking that it was definitely a new species to the bukit, thus how thrilled I was when a closer look revealed it to be the coveted Thrush, which was a young male.

This bird could be from Siberia, Mongolia or Japan, escaping the winter to Southeast Asia, Indonesia, the Philippines, as well as southern China and north-east India.

It hardly perched, moving continuously from branch to branch, but thankfully the seconds it was there afforded me a couple of decent shots.
