Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Macaques at the taman

It's extremely rare to see any primates in the taman but lately the sight of a family of Long-tailed Macaques has become increasingly regular.

Primates around the Bukit Kiara area as well as Taman Persekutuan BK area are used to being fed by humans, practices which have been strongly discouraged, which perhaps account for why these Macaques have been forced to move to adjacent areas like the taman to look for food.

It's quite heart-rending to come across this macaque with what looked like a paper bag that it had ripped apart, perhaps the paper had held some food, and the smell of it still lingered.  It seemed reluctant to let the paper go, smelling it and clasping it as if hoping for something to rub off on it.

I had thought it was simply trifling with the paper.

But it kept on smelling and scrapping it, until it eventually let it go.
