Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Common but can be dazzling

The White-throated Kingfisher is a widely seen bird in parks and botanical gardens and easily dismissed as a common bird.  Given the right background and profile, it's certainly worth more than a second look.
This bird also breeds well and juveniles are continuously spotted in this taman.  The adult can be very loud and aggressive when it senses threats.
It is easy to spot this bird and get excellent shots because it does perch for long,  catch it preening or even after preys like insects and lizards.  However, it can also be sensitive to human presence and take off instantly.
Whatever, be bemused by this sometimes adorable, sometimes elegant bird, adult or juvenile.
