Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Two sides of the Koel

When I saw the Asian Koel in the late afternoon I couldn't believe how quiet it could be.  Its unmistakable continuous call of Kooo-oo which can intensify as if in angry crescendo is certainly an annoyance to many.  I have also seen how its shrieking call can petrify the domestic fowls if it's in the immediate vicinity.
The superstitious does not view this bird in good light, especially when it appears for the first time in their surrounding.  Many believe its appearance is foreboding of a death in a household.

I believe this is the same bird that is usually very very vocal in the morning.  I have seen only a pair so far in the taman.
