Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

An inescapable reality

It was a beautiful morning as I entered the taman.  The lush green bordering the taman was truly welcoming, until I looked afar and up, the machine made my heart drop, crane, and a rising high-rise building, and more will border the taman if development approval is given.
As it is, those who frequent the taman already feel the effects of present development, i.e. existing condos by and close to the taman.  This, coupled with man's unnatural behaviour of taking what does not belong to him, namely poaching, has led to the decreasing presence of wildlife in the taman.
Where were the family of otters that were seen only a year ago?  What happened to the trees that once housed a family of Rufous Woodpeckers, that attracted Sunbirds and Flowerpeckers, that had migrant raptors like the Oriental Honey Buzzard stop by?
We do and will continue to pay, painfully and irreversibly, for our indifference and inaction.
