Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

An uncommon Kingfisher

It's a little fella flying in to escape winter up north.  This much sought after Common Kingfisher for photo shoot, has created quite a stir, encouraged groups of birders and repeat visits daily, from near and far.  It's only about 17cm and absolutely adorable and has gorgeous plummage, even if it's just a juvy female.  It could have come from Europe, north Africa, China, Korea or Japan.  It goes mainly for fish but looks like prawns are a favourite too.
It's true that going after a gorgeous bird (pun intended!) can be pretty addictive.  It looks like one must go for it until one is absolutely satiated.  However, let's hope that the visiting birders here will not frighten off this little fella to leave for another quieter area.
