Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

The Dark-sided one

I almost ignored this one for all the kingfisher fever on the other side of the fence.  Fortunately I decided to go after it, and it turned out to be a Dark-sided Flycatcher which can be considered a more uncommon migrant visitor to the taman compared to the more ubiquitous asian brown flycatcher.
The last time I sighted this bird in the taman was the year before.  However to establish its identity was not easy.  Fortunately after enquiring around I managed to confirm it with a senior birder (fortunately the appearance of the kingfisher had brought a sizeable gathering of birders to the taman so facilitated immediate responses to my enquiries).

It was also fortunate that this one decided to hang around for a couple of days to enable more images.  This flycatcher can be identified with more certainty by its underpart as both the dark-sided and the asian brown sport almost identical back feathers and rump.  In addition, the dark-sided flycatcher has streaks that extend all the way down to its belly, and a more stubby darker beak.
