Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Catching Iora

It's always a sad day when one encounters bird catchers, whatever their reasons are, however old or young they are, perhaps even sadder when these catchers are older ones.  This time, one was going after the Common Iora.

It was also extremely frustrating and depressing because I had spotted a juvenile Plaintive Cuckoo the day before and had hoped that I would be able to have rare sightings of feeding of this bird by an Iora (which is common, not in this taman though), as the Cuckoo had been seen in the part where the Ioras were foraging.  And it's so so rare to see a juvy Cuckoo in the taman.  And incidentally after the catcher was around, the Ioras that frequent this particular part of the taman were no longer seen, either had been caught or they got wiser, which I hoped was the latter.

Nevertheless I had to comfort myself that there are still Ioras around, and woe betide the catcher!
Delighted to catch a pair having a brief time together.

Then one decided to preen, doubling my delight.

Never easy to photograph two at a time, especially so when one is active.
