Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

The other shrike arrived

Another shrike arrived, the Brown Shrike, again spotted earlier compared to last year.  This is one bird that's most commonly found in parks and even one's backyard.  It's also more easily sighted as it perches in open space unlike the tiger shrike that prefers more wooded or shrubby area.
However, the Brown Shrike in the taman, as previously observed, normally will not come down low and takes off instantly when it senses human approach.
