Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

A green beauty

Ever since I came across this beautiful cicada in the taman which was rather unusual because being one of the largest cicadas, it's known to be more commonly found in forests, (10 April 2019 posting at rimbakiara.blogspot.com/2019/04/unexpected-cicada-beauty.html ), I've always been on the look-out for any cicadas here.

Interestingly, the largest cicada in the world is known to be a native to Malaysia, the Megapomponia imperatoria or Empress Cicada.

As I relook this image of the Yellow-vented Bulbul with its big catch I realised that the victim looked like a cicada, a Green Cicada (Dundubia vaginata).  And the heart missed a beat.

A beauty has fallen prey.  Then a quick googling revealed that an adult cicada has a brief life span from four to six weeks.  Is that comforting to know?

Anyway, it was a challenging catch for the bulbul as it took multiple knocks and a few seconds before it could swallow the insect whole.
