Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Unfortunate Kites

It's sad to note that the attempt to nest by the present pair of Brahminy Kites in the taman has come to naught, mainly I believe due to too much 'terrorising' by the Jungle Crows that were often seen to circle and hover around the intended nest.
I decided to track the pair since I first saw them over the other side of the taman, and had hoped that they would nest here following the unfortunate fate of the earlier pair and the departure of its sub-adult.

An opportune occasion allowed me an insight into the Kite's behaviour.  Whilst one was busy feasting, the other one was seen, perhaps, testing a possible nest.

This one was busy checking out the abandoned nest of the previous Kites.

One of the repeat visits to the nest.

One morning, and it was a long one as I observed the pair flying over the taman, breaking off and gathering twigs for what looked like they were preparing to repair or fortify the old nest.

And then, surprise, surprise, it looked like it was planning to start anew elsewhere!  Hmmm, was it trying to mislead and divert attention from its actual choice as I discovered one of the pair working on a new nest?

A couple of weeks later, it was back to the old nest!

And the birds were seen frequently to stay around the nest as if to safeguard it.

Then it looked like everything was over.  These could be the reason!

The pair are now hardly seen visiting this old nest, almost abandoned now.

They are now most seen at the other side of the taman and coming over to this side from time to time.
I almost didn't realise that there were two of them in the following first image.
