Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

The juvy that never made it, Part IV

What do you do when the cycle of life plays out right in front of your very eyes?
And so it happened to this juvy Lineated Barbet.  One minute it was playing happily, exploring, being inquisitive, and Mama was close by.  Then it was gone!
Mama had decided to fly away, followed by juvy.  Suddenly, hearing the distinct flapping of wings right from behind me, I turned in shock to see a Crested Goshawk come speeding down, right past me, seized the juvy, just metres away and at eye level to where I was standing, and off it fled with its catch, all in a split second!
Not in my wildest thoughts did I imagine that this would happen, that the Goshawk would fly so low after this tiny bird, in a place where there were people around.  And so no camera ready for this heart-rending, nevertheless incredible unforgettable moment!
The last few images of the juvy before it met its dreadful end.

And this was the adult that seconds ago was with the juvy.
