The woodpecker craze in the taman was further intensified by the Rufous Woodpecker (Micropternus brachyurus) that has made a couple of appearances. I have yet to count on one hand the number of times I have spotted this one in the taman before this. However these are definitely my best images so far.
This is a male with its distinct red cheek-patch.
The 'watering hole' of this tree is a sure favourite of and attraction for many birds, and squirrels too.
The woodpecker did send the few of us present on a wild chase and sighting attempts as it disappeared and reappeared in numerous spots.
Always, naturally attracted to any hole in any tree.
Then it headed for the palm leaves as if to escape one over-zealous pursuit.
And back to its high foraging ground, tree trunks and branches.
