Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Resident barbets

It's always a pleasure to photograph these Lineated Barbets (Megalaima lineata) but difficult to differentiate between the male and female.

One of the only pair in the taman that has been together since I first sighted them in August 2017.  This pair has also bred successfully numerous times over the years, and here's hoping for more to come.

The other one that is differentiated by the more distinct ear outline.  Birds generally do not have external ear structure as their ear openings, on either side of the head, are hidden beneath feathers called auriculars.
