Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Serpent-eagle vs Ibis

Nothing can be more thrilling to a birder than to have a huge bird fly right before you and just metres away, in all its winged glory!  And this Crested Serpent-eagle did just that as I was standing, feeling rather infuriated (yes, it's irrational!) that there're just too many squirrels in the taman, after having witnessed how a family of three had harassed off the coppersmith barbets and a yellow-rumped flycatcher from a fruiting tree (which means less photo opp).

Back to the Serpent-eagle that looked like it was after something as it swooped past me to land, also just metres away.

Almost immediately I heard cries and flutters as the Hadada Ibis which were foraging close by flapped hastily up and away, crying out loud.

Landing in separate spots, the other one even higher and blocked by the dense foliage.

The cries seemed to startle the Serpent-eagle as it looked about, wonderingly.

Finally it sensed my presence and sought higher perch.

Some time later as I returned to the same spot the Serpent-eagle was still around but flew on as I approached.
And as suddenly too, it flew after one of the Ibises and there was a flight from one tree to the other with the Ibis crying out.

The Ibis landed up high, unfortunately out of sight, but the Serpent-eagle landed on a fallen branch, and finally gave up its look-out and flew off.
The incident did make me wonder if one would actually attack the other, or was it merely a territorial claim by the raptor in view that the other two were merely new visitors.
