Taman Rimba Kiara is a little green gem located in a corner of the TTDI residential area. The above flowering tree, the firmiana malayana or mata lembu, flashes in testimony to man's care-less-ness - it's one of only two trees in the park that had flowered, since then the tree had been chopped down.

Those unfazed by noise

Following a rather prolonged stretch of blasts of fireworks the night before, the taman was relatively quiet the next morning, for obvious reason.  Walking around, I finally ventured down to the river, and managed to spot the Little Egret having the entire sand bar area to itself.

Hoping to chance upon more winged ones, I spied this Brown Shrike sitting cool and calm amidst intermittent bursts of fire crackers from the adjacent temple area.

Towards late morning, the taman seemed to come more alive with birdlife, perhaps the more sunny weather now had encouraged them to emerge.  This Brown Shrike suddenly flew in shrieking away.

Minutes later I came across this one, looking pretty and relaxed too, so all in all, it made me wonder if the three Shrikes I had seen so far were one and the same, perhaps the last two were the same one.

The other migrant I saw in more numbers were the Blue-tailed Bee-eaters, practically monopolising another part of the taman, and both adults and sub-adults were extremely active, crisp 'tuck' sounds echoed around suggesting that these birds had hit on their target insects.  Unfortunately these birds were simply too swift for me to capture them in flight, although when they came to rest, it was either eye level or below eye level.
